AAP MP Raghav Chadha Alleges Political Motives Behind Cancellation of Accommodation

In a startling development, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament Raghav Chadha has alleged that the cancellation of his allotted official accommodation by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat was motivated by political reasons.

Chadha, a vocal critic of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has claimed that the cancellation was arbitrary and unprecedented. In a statement, he said, "The cancellation of my duly allotted official accommodation was arbitrary without any notice to me. It is unprecedented in more than 70 years of history of Rajya Sabha that a sitting Rajya Sabha member is sought to be removed from his duly allotted accommodation."

Chadha also alleged irregularities in the order and accused the Rajya Sabha Secretariat of contravening rules and regulations in their actions. He said, "The manner of the entire exercise leaves me with no option but to believe that these have been carried out at the dictates of BJP to further their political motives and vested interest in order to scuttle and stifle the political criticism raised by the vocal parliamentarians like me."

Chadha's accommodation had been allotted by the Hon’ble Chairman of Rajya Sabha himself, taking into consideration his unique circumstances. However, the subsequent cancellation without cause or reason led him to believe that it was an attempt to wrongfully target and victimize him.

This incident comes on the heels of Chadha's suspension as a Member of Parliament, which he claims was initiated by the treasury benches. He firmly believes that the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to target vocal MPs, describing it as unwarranted interference in the functioning of representatives and a manifestation of vendetta politics.

Chadha also highlighted that many of his neighbors in similar accommodations were first-time MPs who had been allotted spaces above their entitlement. He said, "There are many irregularities in the said order and the subsequent steps were taken by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat in clear contravention of rules and regulations. The manner of the entire exercise leaves me with no option but to believe that these have been carried out at the dictates of BJP to further their political motives and vested interest in order to scuttle and stifle the political criticism raised by the vocal parliamentarians like me."

Regarding legal proceedings, Chadha mentioned that the trial court initially granted him interim relief but later returned his case on a legal technicality, which he contests as based on an incorrect understanding of the law. He affirmed his commitment to fearlessly representing the people of Punjab and India, regardless of the challenges he faces.

This development has raised concerns about the alleged politicization of official accommodations for parliamentarians and the broader issue of political rivalry within India's legislative bodies.
