AAP to Join Opposition's Bengaluru Meeting, Rejects Delhi Ordinance on Service Control

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its participation in the upcoming Opposition meeting in Bengaluru on Monday and Tuesday. This decision comes in response to the Congress party's stance against the Centre's ordinance on control of services in Delhi.

Raghav Chadha, an AAP Rajya Sabha MP, confirmed the party's attendance after a meeting of the party's Political Affairs Committee (PAC) held in New Delhi on Sunday. Chadha stated that the Congress party's opposition to the Delhi ordinance was a positive development, and the AAP welcomed their decision.

Chadha, along with Gopal Rai and Atishi, attended the PAC meeting, which took place at the residence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Earlier on the same day, Chadha expressed that the Congress had expressed "unequivocal opposition" to the ordinance imposed by the central government.

In response, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal reiterated the party's clear stand against any intervention by the Centre in states governed by opposition parties. He stated that the Congress would oppose the Delhi ordinance in Parliament when a relevant bill is presented.

The Opposition meeting in Bengaluru aims to unite various political parties against the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha election. This meeting follows a previous gathering held in Patna, Bihar, on June 23, where leaders from 24 political parties convened.

The AAP had urged the Congress to clarify its stance on the Centre's ordinance, which pertains to the transfer and posting of Group-A officers in Delhi. The ordinance proposes the establishment of a National Capital Civil Service Authority for the disciplinary proceedings and transfers of these officers.

The AAP's decision to attend the Opposition meeting underscores its rejection of the Delhi ordinance, aligning with the Congress's position. By participating in the gathering, the party aims to strengthen opposition unity against the BJP.
