The Government of India’s Government e-Marketplace (GeM) will organise a one-day ‘GeM Excellence Event’ in Ranchi on January 19 to promote efficient and transparent public procurement in Jharkhand, official sources said on Friday.

The event will be held in Dhurwa and is aimed at providing practical exposure to Jharkhand government departments, buyer organisations and local sellers on GeM’s latest features, processes and workflows.

GeM is the country’s unified digital public procurement platform used by central and state governments, public sector undertakings, autonomous bodies and other government institutions for the purchase of goods and services. The platform focuses on transparency, efficiency and inclusiveness, enabling competitive and credible procurement.

During the programme, special emphasis will be laid on new features related to services procurement, helping both buyers and sellers optimise their use of the platform. Dedicated sessions will be conducted for state government buyers to explain procurement procedures in a simplified manner, including a separate session on rules and processes related to manpower hiring through GeM.

Senior officials, including union Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, GeM Chief Executive Officer Mihir Kumar and Jharkhand government representatives, are expected to address the event. On the occasion, three top-performing Jharkhand government departments in terms of procurement through GeM, along with select high-performing sellers, will be felicitated.

A separate session will also be organised for sellers from Jharkhand, where the GeM team will guide them on increasing participation in government procurement, understanding platform processes and resolving operational queries.

Officials said the event would serve as an important opportunity for buyers and sellers in Jharkhand to gain clarity on GeM’s evolving ecosystem and best practices, contributing to simpler, more transparent and outcome-oriented public procurement.
