New Delhi, March 1: In a textbook instance of community vigilance, an attempted theft at Quarter No. 738 in Laxmi Bai Nagar was thwarted after a 10-year-old boy displayed unusual presence of mind.

Master Bedansh Singh Roy spotted a man allegedly collecting garments kept outside for drying. Sensing that something was amiss, he immediately informed the allottees, Sh. Binod Kumar and his family. The alert quickly spread through the residential block, prompting neighbours to intervene.

Residents, led by RWA Secretary Sh. Bimal Kumar Gupta, confronted the suspect and restrained him before informing the police. The accused was subsequently handed over to Beat Constable Sh. Ashok Kumar attached to Sarojini Nagar Police Station for further action.

RWA President Sh. Rajesh Kumar Meena lauded the boy’s vigilance, calling it a “timely and courageous act” that prevented a petty crime from escalating. He noted that the association has consistently promoted a “neighbourhood first” approach, encouraging residents to remain watchful and responsive.

Police officials confirmed that the individual was taken into custody and that necessary legal procedures are being followed.

The episode underscores how basic alertness and coordinated community response can act as an effective first line of defence in residential colonies — a reminder that security is often as strong as the weakest moment of inattention.
