Vijay’s Divorce Case to Be Heard in Camera; Lawyer Shares Key Details
Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay’s divorce case with wife Sangeetha to be heard in camera, says family court advocate; key legal details and petition claims explained.
In connection with the divorce case between actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay and his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam, family court advocate Sundar Pandian Raja has offered important clarifications.
Responding to questions on whether the case could turn into a political and public spectacle, the advocate made it clear that family court matters are not conducted in the public domain. Such cases are generally heard in family courts in a private manner, and there is no possibility of proceedings being held before cameras or in an open court format.
He further observed that it cannot be conclusively said that the issue would cause major damage to Vijay’s political image. Divorce, he noted, often arises from personal reasons such as individual freedom, differences within the family, or lack of time spent together due to professional commitments.
With regard to legal procedures during nomination filing, there are established norms concerning disclosure of a spouse’s assets. In situations where a couple lives separately, appropriate court permission can be sought in accordance with legal provisions.
Meanwhile, in the petition reportedly filed by Sangeetha, it has been alleged that in April 2021 she came to know of a relationship in violation of marriage involving an अभिनेत्री. The petition states that the development caused her mental distress. Though an assurance was allegedly given that the relationship would be ended, it is claimed that it continued.
The petition further states that after she questioned the relationship, her rights within the family were restricted and she was pushed into a situation of living separately. It also mentions that foreign travel with the actress and photographs shared on social media caused mental anguish to her and the children.
Sangeetha has also reportedly indicated in her petition that, if necessary, she would exercise her right to implead the said actress as a second respondent in the case.
At present, the next stage of inquiry and legal proceedings in the Vijay–Sangeetha divorce case has drawn attention in both political and film circles. Legal experts say that the upcoming hearing before the family court is likely to be a crucial turning point in the matter.
