Bihar Signs PPA for 185 MW Kajra Solar Project, Takes Major Leap Toward Clean Energy Self-Reliance
In presence of Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited inks agreement for solar-plus-battery project in Lakhisarai; ‘Power Year 2025’ booklet released
In the presence of Honorable Energy Minister Shri Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited signed a power purchase agreement on Wednesday for the supply of electricity generated from the 185 MW solar power and 282 MWh battery energy storage project located in Kajra, Lakhisarai district. On this occasion, the Honorable Energy Minister also released a booklet, "The Power Year 2025 - Bihar Energy Highlights," based on the key achievements of the year 2025.
Energy Secretary and Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited, Shri Manoj Kumar Singh (IAS), Managing Director of South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited and Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL), Shri Mahendra Kumar (IAS), Managing Director of North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited, Shri Rahul Kumar (IAS), and other senior officials were present at the event. This agreement is an important milestone for the state of Bihar towards self-reliance in the energy sector.
Energy Minister Mr. Bijendra Prasad Yadav stated that solar energy plays a significant role in combating global warming. Speaking on the occasion of the signing of the agreement, the Energy Minister stated that today is a historic day for Bihar. The Kajra Solar Power Project will ensure uninterrupted power supply in the state. This project will provide a new impetus to Bihar's energy sector. He stated that this project not only provides electricity, but also provides green energy and an inspiration for the future. This investment policy and approach will ensure convenience and security for future generations, and the Energy Department is continuously working towards this goal.
Currently, approximately ₹50,000 crore is being invested in the state's energy sector.

The signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) today will pave the way for commercial operations. The booklet, "The Power Year 2025 - Bihar Energy Highlights," highlights the achievements of the Bihar Government's Energy Department in one year.
Referring to the Pirpainti Thermal Power Plant, he said that during the public hearing organized by the Pollution Control Board, approximately 3,500 people welcomed and agreed to the construction of the Pirpainti Thermal Power Plant, which was extremely important and historic. He stated that the remaining work would be completed in time with renewed energy and determination.
Mr. Mahendra Kumar, Managing Director of South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited and Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL), congratulated the team of Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited and said that today is a very important day for Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited. The signing of the agreement for the Kajra Solar Power Project is not just a formality, but a celebration of the fulfillment of a promise made to the people of Bihar.
The solar power plant developed in Kajra, Lakhisarai district, has become a significant milestone for the state in this direction. This project will not only increase power generation but also play a crucial role in making Bihar a clean, uninterrupted, and sustainable energy provider. The first phase, with 185 MW of solar power and 282 MWh of battery storage capacity, is in its final stages. Its commercial operation will ensure consistent and adequate power supply to Lakhisarai and its surrounding districts.
With the addition of 116 MW of solar power and 241 MWh of battery capacity in the second phase, estimated at ₹1,055 crore, the Kajra plant's total capacity will reach 301 MW of solar power and 523 MWh of battery storage by January 2027. This will not only strengthen energy supply but also ensure grid stability during peak demand.
The project order was issued on July 1, 2024, and in less than 18 months, the project was successfully connected to the 132 kV grid on December 31, 2025. This achievement reflects the excellent coordination between Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) and the Department of Energy and their commitment to timely completion. This project is a concrete step towards 24x7 renewable energy in Bihar.
