According to Mumbai Police, three key locations in the city, including the Vidhan Bhavan, received threatening emails on Thursday morning. The emails also included the Bombay Stock Exchange and the Bombay High Court. Upon receiving the information, Mumbai Police teams, along with the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and Dog Squad, arrived at the scene. A thorough search operation is underway at all affected locations. A tight security perimeter has been established around these buildings.
Mumbai Police have taken the matter seriously and stated that adequate security measures have been implemented at all locations. Police are now investigating the source of the email from which the threat originated. Legal action has been initiated against the unknown accused at the relevant police stations. While the discovery of any suspicious object has not yet been confirmed, the investigation is ongoing.
Surprisingly, this threat to the Vidhan Bhavan comes just a day after a man attempted self-immolation there. On Wednesday, 38-year-old Dadaso Baban Kalsat, a resident of Madha taluka in Solapur district, poured kerosene on himself near Usha Mehta Chowk. However, police personnel deployed there were quick to restrain him before he could set himself on fire.
Preliminary police investigation revealed that Kalsat was upset over the removal of a statue of Lord Vishwakarma in his village. The local Nagar Panchayat allegedly removed the statue, which was illegally installed on land belonging to the blacksmith community. Following the protest, police registered a case against Kalsat under Section 226 of the Indian Penal Code. At present, the police is also investigating whether there is any connection between the bomb threat and the suicide attempt.
