BPCL Launches India's First LPG ATM In Gurugram As Crisis Bites
24x7 automated vending machine in Sector 33 dispenses lightweight composite cylinders in under 3 minutes; pilot project aims to cut dependence on gas agencies
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has launched India's first LPG ATM in Gurugram's Sector 33, Sohna, offering round-the-clock automated cylinder exchange as the country grapples with LPG supply anxiety triggered by the Middle East conflict.
The fully digital, contactless vending machine allows users to exchange empty cylinders for filled composite cylinders in 2–3 minutes. The process requires users to enter their registered mobile number, verify an OTP, and scan the barcode or QR code on their cylinder. Payment is accepted via UPI, debit card, credit card, or net banking. The machine retains the empty cylinder and dispenses a filled one — operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Unlike conventional 31-kg iron cylinders, the LPG ATM dispenses fibre-based composite cylinders weighing approximately 15 kg — significantly easier to handle and transport. The machine holds around 10 cylinders and is equipped with an automated low-stock alert system that notifies nearby gas agencies for timely replenishment.
The launch comes as the government has revised LPG booking deadlines and prices in response to supply disruptions, while oil companies have ramped up production under government directive. BPCL officials said the pilot project is designed to ease pressure on traditional distribution networks and ensure smoother supply continuity during the ongoing crisis.
