Delhi minister Ravinder Indraj Singh on Tuesday said the cooperative movement is the backbone of India’s economic and social empowerment, and that his government is committed to strengthening it further.

He said the BJP will develop the city as the national hub of cooperation, providing a common platform for people and products associated with cooperatives from across the country.

Cooperative products will be promoted and given marketing support in Delhi, enabling wider reach and better opportunities for producers.

This was stated by the Delhi cooperation minister while inaugurating the Sahakar Haat organised by the National Bank For Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) at the State Emporia Complex.

He said the cooperative movement is the backbone of India’s economic and social empowerment, and the Delhi Government is committed to strengthening it further.

The minister said the vision of “Sahakar se Samriddhi” has emerged as a mass movement, giving new strength to the cooperative sector nationwide. He added that people associated with cooperatives will play an important role in achieving the goal of a Developed India by 2047, as self-reliance can be attained only by empowering farmers, artisans and small entrepreneurs.

Highlighting Delhi’s significance as a major consumer market, the minister said effective marketing of cooperative products from the national capital would benefit farmers and cooperative members across the country.

He further informed that the government plans to open modern cooperative stores in housing societies across the city. In the coming period, several such stores will be established to provide proper market access to handloom, handicrafts, agricultural and rural products.

The minister also announced the development of a digital platform where cooperative members can register and market their products. This initiative will help small entrepreneurs and those currently outside the cooperative framework to join the movement.

Singh said Delhi has over 2,000 cooperative societies, but these institutions and cooperative banks were neglected under previous governments. He stated that necessary legal amendments are being undertaken to strengthen the cooperative sector.

Regular discussions are being held with NABARD to improve the banking structure, credit societies and other cooperative institutions, with a focus on transparency and better facilities.

He added that the participation of cooperative members from across the country in Sahakar Haat reflects the strength and wide reach of the cooperative movement.

Appreciating NABARD and the organising team, the minister said the event would provide motivation and new opportunities to farmers, artisans and cooperative entrepreneurs.
