India has issued a fresh advisory urging its nationals in Iran to leave the country “expeditiously,” even as a fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran comes into effect.

In a statement, the Indian Embassy in Tehran advised citizens to immediately coordinate with officials and use designated routes for safe evacuation. The advisory, a continuation of an earlier notice issued on April 7, emphasised the increased urgency in light of recent developments in the region.

The Embassy cautioned against any uncoordinated movement, specifically warning citizens not to approach international land borders without prior consultation. It also shared emergency contact details and support channels for those seeking assistance in leaving the country.

The renewed advisory comes shortly after US President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran, temporarily halting military operations. The pause is expected to create an opportunity for diplomatic engagement, with further talks anticipated in the coming days.

Despite the de-escalation, Indian authorities appear to be prioritising the safety of their citizens, given the volatile situation and uncertainty over how long the ceasefire will hold.

Meanwhile, Iran has outlined a 10-point proposal as a potential framework for a longer-term resolution. The proposal includes commitments related to non-aggression and recognition of Iran’s control over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil supplies.

Among the more contentious elements are demands for acceptance of Iran’s uranium enrichment programme and the lifting of both primary and secondary sanctions imposed by the United States. The proposal also calls for the removal of certain United Nations and International Atomic Energy Agency resolutions linked to Iran’s nuclear activities.

The situation remains fluid, with diplomatic efforts underway even as governments take precautionary measures to ensure the safety of their nationals in the region.
