The Maharashtra government has formally requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the plane crash that killed Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar last month, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed at a press conference in Mumbai on Friday.

Fadnavis told reporters that the Mahayuti government is committed to ensuring full transparency around the circumstances of the crash. He revealed that he had received a letter from ally parties — the BJP and the NCP — demanding a CBI investigation, following which he personally discussed the matter with Home Minister Amit Shah. The request has now been formally placed before the Centre.

“The Mahayuti government will ensure that all doubts regarding the plane crash are cleared,” Fadnavis stated.

With the CBI probe now confirmed, the investigation into Ajit Pawar’s death will proceed on three parallel tracks — the existing inquiry by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the ongoing state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probe, and the newly sanctioned CBI investigation. The multi-agency approach signals the seriousness with which the government is treating the case, amid what appears to be growing political pressure for a definitive and credible inquiry into the crash.
