A shooting coach has been suspended and a criminal case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act registered against him after a minor shooter accused her national-level coach of sexual assault.

According to the police complaint, the minor athlete alleged that the coach had called her to a luxury hotel in Haryana's Faridabad on the pretext of discussing her performance and improving her sporting skills.

The girl stated that she trusted the coach due to her career aspirations and agreed to meet him after a national-level shooting competition held in December. She has alleged that the assault took place inside a hotel room and that she was threatened with harm to her career and family if she spoke out.

The victim reportedly remained in a state of shock for nearly three weeks before sharing the incident with her mother. Following this, a formal complaint was filed on January 6 at the NIT Women Police Station in Faridabad.

Police have initiated an investigation, recorded statements, and begun collecting CCTV footage from the hotel. Officials also confirmed that counseling support will be provided to the minor.

Taking cognizance of the matter, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) announced the suspension of the accused coach, Ankush Bhardwaj, stating that he will remain suspended until the investigation is completed.

The case has drawn wider attention as it follows another earlier incident involving a woman shooter in Haryana, highlighting concerns over athlete safety. The Haryana State Women’s Commission has also sought strict action, urging authorities to ensure a thorough and time-bound investigation.

Police have said further action will be taken based on evidence collected during the probe.
