PM Modi Thanks Global Leaders for Republic Day Wishes
Greetings from Bhutan, France and Cyprus highlight India’s growing diplomatic ties and strategic partnerships.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday highlighted India’s strengthening diplomatic ties as he thanked several world leaders for their greetings on the occasion of the country’s 77th Republic Day, reaffirming New Delhi’s commitment to deepening bilateral and strategic partnerships.
In a series of posts on social media platform X, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the warm wishes received from leaders of Bhutan, France and Cyprus, while also signalling India’s intent to expand cooperation across regions.
Thanking Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, PM Modi underlined the enduring closeness between the two neighbours. “Thank you Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and the people of Bhutan for the warm wishes on the 77th Republic Day of India. May the special bonds of friendship and unique ties between our nations continue to grow from strength to strength,” he wrote.
India and Bhutan share a long-standing partnership characterised by close political coordination, strong people-to-people ties and cooperation in areas such as hydropower, development assistance and regional security. Bhutan remains one of India’s most trusted partners in South Asia, with the relationship often described as unique and exemplary.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged greetings from French President Emmanuel Macron, pointing to the expanding India–France strategic partnership. “Thank you my dear friend, President Emmanuel Macron for your warm wishes on India’s 77th Republic Day. I look forward to welcoming you in India soon and further deepen and diversify the India–France strategic partnership,” Modi said.
India and France have developed a robust strategic relationship, with cooperation spanning defence, space, civil nuclear energy, climate action and the Indo-Pacific. President Macron’s proposed visit to India is expected to further strengthen ties, particularly in emerging technologies, defence manufacturing and clean energy.
In another message, PM Modi thanked Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides for his wishes, reiterating India’s commitment to closer engagement with Cyprus. “Thank you dear President Nikos Christodoulides for your warm wishes. Cyprus is a close friend and trusted partner and we are committed to deepening our comprehensive partnership. I look forward to welcoming you in India,” he wrote.
India and Cyprus share traditionally friendly relations, cooperating in areas such as trade, investment, shipping and education, while also supporting each other in multilateral forums.
The exchange of Republic Day greetings reflects India’s growing global presence and its focus on nurturing partnerships across continents. Republic Day, observed annually on January 26, marks the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1950 and serves as an occasion for India to showcase its democratic values, cultural diversity and diplomatic outreach to the world.
