Sanjay Sarawagi Appointed as New Bihar BJP State President

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Sanjay Sarawagi as the new state president of Bihar BJP. Sanjay Sarawagi is considered one of the experienced and grassroots leaders of Bihar BJP. He has been elected as an MLA from the Darbhanga assembly constituency multiple times and has a strong hold in the region.

Sanjay Sarawagi's association with politics began during his student life. He was associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for about 10 years and served in various positions. He gained organizational experience during his student politics, which benefited him in his later political career.

Sanjay Sarawagi joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1995. Later, in 2002, he was elected as a councilor from Ward No. 6 of Darbhanga Municipal Corporation. In 2003, he played a crucial role in the organization as the General Secretary of Darbhanga District BJP. Before this, he had also served as the District Secretary and City President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).

MLA from Darbhanga since 2005

Sanjay Sarawagi was first elected as an MLA from the Darbhanga Sadar assembly constituency in 2005. After that, he continuously won the assembly elections in 2005, 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025. In the 2025 elections, he proved his strong political hold by defeating Umesh Sahani, the chief of the Vikassheel Insaan Party, by a large margin.

Discussion about the state president intensified after becoming a minister

According to BJP rules, a person can hold only one position at a time. Dilip Jaiswal was made a minister in the state government after the BJP's good performance in the Bihar assembly elections. Since then, the question of who would be the next state president of Bihar BJP had been raised. Now, the party has finalized Sanjay Sarawagi's name.

A letter issued by BJP National General Secretary and Headquarters In-charge Arun Singh stated that MLA Sanjay Sarawagi is appointed as the state president of Bihar BJP with immediate effect. With this decision, the formal beginning of new leadership in the party organization has taken place.

Strong academic and administrative experience

Born on August 28, 1969, in Darbhanga, Sanjay Sarawagi has completed his M.Com and MBA from Mithila University. He also served as the chairman of the Estimates Committee of the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2017. Since February 2025, he has also held the position of Minister of Revenue and Land Reforms in the Bihar government.

Responsibility for strengthening the organization

The BJP leadership hopes that Sanjay Sarawgi's appointment as state president will further strengthen the organization in Bihar and that the party will benefit from this in the upcoming elections.
