Sugarcane Procurement Gains Momentum in Bihar, Mills Buy Over 351 Lakh Quintals

Harinagar Sugar Mill tops purchases as over 85% payments released to farmers during ongoing crushing season

Sugarcane procurement in the state has accelerated since the start of the crushing season. To date, sugar mill operators in the state have purchased over 351.63 lakh quintals of sugarcane from farmers. Over 85% of this amount has been paid to farmers.

It is reported that Harinagar Sugar Mill has purchased the most sugarcane since sugarcane procurement began. Narkatiaganj Sugar Mill is in second place, and Bagaha Sugar Mill is in third place. According to departmental data, Harinagar Sugar Mill has purchased 81.80 lakh quintals, Bagaha 53.01 lakh quintals, Narkatiaganj 59.33 lakh quintals, Majhauliya 36.43 lakh quintals, Hasanpur 27.09 lakh quintals, Sidhavaliya 26.34 lakh quintals, Gopalganj 21.98 lakh quintals, Lauriya 19.53 lakh quintals, Sugauli 15.05 lakh quintals, and Riga Sugar Mill has purchased 07.67 lakh quintals. Additionally, the Pratappur Sugar Mill purchased 3.40 lakh quintals of sugarcane from farmers in Siwan district. In return, the sugar mills have paid over 85 percent of the sugarcane price.

In this regard, Commissioner Anil Kumar Jha stated that all mills have been ordered to submit updated reports on sugarcane purchases. Any outstanding dues have been ordered to be paid promptly.
