Sultanganj–Aguwani Ghat Ganga Bridge Must Be Completed in 18 Months or Face Blacklisting: Secretary
Road Construction Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal reviews project progress, orders removal of bottlenecks and weekly monitoring to ensure timely completion of key Bihar connectivity project
An important meeting was held today in the department's meeting room, chaired by Mr. Pankaj Kumar Pal, Secretary of the Road Construction Department, to expedite the work on the Sultanganj-Aguwani Ghat Ganga Bridge Project. The Secretary conducted a thorough review of all aspects of the project, including the design, approach road, and ROB, and provided necessary guidance. During the review, he also directed the immediate removal of obstacles to the project's construction. Senior department officials, project engineers, consultants, and representatives of the relevant agencies were present at the meeting.
This Ganga Bridge project will play a crucial role in connecting Bhagalpur and Khagaria districts. Its completion will strengthen regional connectivity and provide a new impetus to trade, transportation, and socio-economic activities. IIT Rorkee has provided in-principle approval for the foundation and substructure design. The old well cap P10 is being cut to construct the well caps between P9 and P13, and preparations are underway to cut the old well caps of P11 and P12. The proposal submitted by the contractor for the remaining work between spans P6 and P9 is being reviewed by the authority engineer.
During the review, the Secretary urged further acceleration of the project's construction to ensure timely completion. He gave clear instructions that the entire bridge construction work be completed within the stipulated 18-month period. Failure to meet the timeline will result in the agency being blacklisted.
He stated that the Road Construction Department is continuously monitoring the project to ensure timely and smooth completion. The Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation was directed to conduct weekly reviews of the project. The work program and milestones must be immediately obtained from the contractor and progress must be reviewed on a weekly basis.
The total length of the project's approach road is 20.3 kilometers, with a target completion date of May 2026. Work is underway on all sections except the ROB Pasraha. Secretary Mr. Pankaj Kumar Pal directed the contractor to expedite the work by ensuring adequate deployment of resources to complete all project tasks within the stipulated timeframe. He clarified that no compromise on the quality of construction work would be acceptable.
