TMC Marks 28 Years as Mamata Banerjee Vows Party Will Never Bow to “Malevolent Forces”

Marking the 28th anniversary of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), West Bengal Chief Minister and party supremo Mamata Banerjee issued a powerful statement of defiance on Thursday, vowing that her party will never succumb to "malevolent forces."

Leading the celebrations for the party she founded in 1998, Banerjee reaffirmed her commitment to the "Ma-Mati-Manush" (Mother, Motherland, and People) ideology, signaling a resolute stance as the state moves toward pivotal administrative and political milestones in 2026.

In a message shared with supporters and posted on WhatsApp, Banerjee reflected on the party's historic journey, which began after she broke away from the Indian National Congress nearly three decades ago to provide an independent platform for the people of Bengal.

"With the aim of serving Ma-Mati-Manush, the journey of the Trinamool Congress began on this day in 1998," Banerjee stated. "The core guiding principle of this historic journey is the honor of the motherland, the development of Bengal, and the protection of the democratic rights of the people."

The Chief Minister emphasised that the party’s strength remains rooted in its grassroots workers, whom she credited for their "tireless efforts and sacrifices" in maintaining the party's momentum through years of political struggle.

The Foundation Day comes at a time of heightened political activity in West Bengal. The TMC is currently navigating a period of intense scrutiny and administrative friction, including ongoing tussle with the Election Commission regarding electoral roll revisions.

Addressing these challenges, Banerjee struck a note of unwavering resolve: "We will not bow to any malevolent forces, and disregarding all enmity, our struggle for the common people will continue lifelong."

The All India Trinamool Congress was officially formed on January 1, 1998. Since its inception, the party has evolved from a regional challenger to a dominant political powerhouse:

2011: Ended the 34-year-long Left Front rule in West Bengal.

2016: Achieved 'National Party' status (which it held until 2023).

2021: Secured a landslide victory for a third consecutive term in the state assembly.

As the party enters its 29th year, the leadership has renewed its pledge to protect the "democratic voice" of Bengal. Party General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee joined the celebrations, echoing the Chief Minister's sentiments by stating that the party remains "anchored to Ma, Mati, Manush" and will continue to shield the people from any "oppressive forces."

With the 2026 Assembly elections on the horizon, the TMC’s Foundation Day serves as a rallying cry for its supporters, reinforcing the party’s image as a "movement forged in struggle" and a primary bulwark for regional interests.
