Varanasi Gears Up for Chhath Festival with Massive Safety Arrangements Along Ganga Ghats

Seven NDRF teams equipped with rescue boats, water ambulances, and life-saving gear to ensure round-the-clock security as millions gather for the four-day celebration starting October 25.

The Varanasi administration has prioritized the safety of devotees and made extensive arrangements as millions are expected to throng the crescent-shaped ghats of the holy city of Kashi during the four-day-long Chhath festival, beginning on October 25.

As devotees gather in large numbers to offer prayers to the setting and rising sun, teams from the 11th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will be deployed across the Ganga ghats, lakes, and ponds. These teams will be equipped with essential safety gear, water ambulances, divers, and other rescue equipment to ensure a prompt response in case of any emergency.

Deputy Inspector General of the 11th NDRF, Manoj Kumar Sharma, said on Thursday that NDRF teams will be stationed along the banks of the Ganga to ensure round-the-clock security during the Chhath festivities. A total of seven teams will be deployed at key locations in Varanasi, including the Ganga ghats, Bareka (Surya Sarovar), and Chandauli.

Each team will comprise 30 trained NDRF personnel, with the option to increase manpower if necessary. All teams will be fully equipped with life-saving equipment such as rescue motorboats, water ambulances, life jackets, life buoys, oxygen cylinders, and other emergency supplies.

All safety and security arrangements are being carried out in coordination with the district administration to ensure a safe and smooth celebration for all devotees.
