Tamil Nadu Election Survey: DMK Alliance Leads AIADMK by Just 2%, Tight Race Ahead
A latest private television survey in Tamil Nadu shows a tight electoral contest, with the DMK alliance at 40% and the AIADMK alliance close behind at 38%.
Chennai: With the Tamil Nadu Assembly election drawing closer, the political atmosphere in the state is steadily heating up, with alliance negotiations and seat-sharing talks dominating the discourse. In the midst of this churn, a latest survey conducted by a private Tamil television channel has attempted to gauge public opinion on which alliance is likely to emerge victorious if elections were held today.
According to the survey, the contest between the two principal alliances in the state appears extremely tight, with only a narrow two-percentage-point difference separating them.
At present, the alliance led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) comprises as many as 22 parties, including the Indian National Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) is the latest party to have joined the front, while several other constituents have been part of the DMK-led coalition for many years.
On the other side, the alliance led by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) includes the Bharatiya Janata Party, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, the Tamil Maanila Congress and the Pattali Makkal Katchi among others.
Seat-sharing negotiations within the DMK alliance have already been concluded with some parties. Meanwhile, discussions within the AIADMK-led front are continuing at a brisk pace. With the Rajya Sabha seat for the PMK already finalised, political observers are now watching closely to see when the final numbers for Assembly seat allocation among alliance partners will be settled.
Even after AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami travelled to Delhi and met Union Home Minister Amit Shah, talks with the BJP on seat-sharing are yet to reach a conclusion, sources said.
Amid this politically charged environment, the private television channel conducted a survey asking voters which alliance they believe would win if the Assembly election were held today.
The results suggest a very close contest. According to the survey, 40 per cent of respondents said the DMK-led alliance would definitely win, while 38 per cent believed the AIADMK-led alliance would emerge victorious.
The survey also recorded support for other political formations. Around 4 per cent of respondents said the Naam Tamilar Katchi would win, while 18 per cent expressed support for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
With alliance talks still underway and the campaign yet to fully gather momentum, the survey underscores how finely balanced the political contest in Tamil Nadu remains at this stage. Analysts note that shifts in alliances, candidate selection and campaign narratives in the coming months could still significantly influence the electoral outcome.
