Who Will Secure Victory in the Mylapore Constituency?
A four-cornered contest heats up in Chennai’s Mylapore constituency with Thiru Velu, Tamilisai Soundararajan, and others in the fray. Key issues, candidates, and voter insights.
A four-cornered contest is unfolding in the Mylapore constituency this time. Ranked 25th in the list of Tamil Nadu Assembly constituencies, Mylapore is a key seat with both cultural and real estate significance in Chennai district. It falls under the South Chennai Lok Sabha constituency. The historic Kapaleeshwarar Temple, one of the prominent Shiva temples, is located in this constituency. Additionally, the well-known Santhome Basilica is also situated here.
The constituency is marked by the presence of premium residential apartments, reputed schools, and hospitals, making it a high-demand zone in the real estate market. Mylapore serves as a convergence point of Chennai’s heritage and modernity. Alongside upscale housing, a large number of traditional residences also exist. The constituency has a significant population of fishing communities and Brahmin residents, along with a considerable presence of other communities.
Water scarcity, frequent power outages, and long-pending sewage management issues in areas such as Mandaveli and Abhiramapuram continue to persist. Traffic congestion due to ongoing metro rail works remains a major challenge. Additionally, older residential zones face long-standing concerns related to basic infrastructure upgrades and stormwater drainage systems.
