Indian opener scores a scintillating century and takes her first international wicket in a historic display
Indian women's cricket team's star opener Smriti Mandhana played a brilliant century in the second ODI against South Africa on Wednesday. She scored 136 runs in 120 balls with the help of 18 fours and 2 sixes, which is her highest ODI score. Mandhana did another amazing thing in the match held at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. She bowled for the first time in her 11-year international career. She surprised everyone by taking the wicket of South African veteran cricketer Sune Luus in the first over of her career. Mandhana's happiness after taking the first international wicket was worth seeing.
The South African team, which came out to chase the target of 326 runs, did not have a good start. Arundhati Reddy bowled opener Tazmin Brits (5) in the fourth over. Deepti Sharma sent Anneke Bosch (18) to the pavilion in the 12th over. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur handed the ball to Mandhana in the 15th over. Mandhana trapped Luus in her net on the second ball of her career. Lus tried to play a shot on the ball outside the off stump but was caught by wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh. She scored 12 runs in 13 balls with 2 fours. Mandhana, who bats left-handed, is a right-arm medium pace bowler.
Mandhana bowled 2 overs in the India vs South Africa match and conceded 13 runs. She got only one wicket. She came to bowl in the 17th over after the 15th over, giving seven runs. Mandhana may have bowled for the first time in her international career, but she has bowled many times in professional cricket. She bowled for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the first edition of the Women's Premier League. She bowled three balls in the match against Mumbai Indians and conceded 9 runs. She also bowled in the Senior Women's Multi-Day Interzonal Tournament held in Pune in April. She has also bowled in the Women's Big Bash League, where she has three wickets to her name.
