China is willing to work with India to properly manage conflicts and differences, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during a meeting with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in Beijing on Monday, at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ meeting.
Wang Yi emphasized the importance of building trust and cooperation, saying both countries should “trust rather than suspect each other” and focus on “mutual success.” He also highlighted the need to safeguard the multilateral trading system to ensure global supply chain stability, including with India.
Jaishankar, meanwhile, stressed that “differences should not become disputes, nor should competition ever become conflict.” He pointed to improvements in India-China relations over the past nine months, especially following the resolution of border tensions, calling this the foundation for “mutual strategic trust.”
Both ministers agreed on the importance of a long-term vision for their relationship. Wang Yi urged China and India to continue pursuing good-neighborliness, peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation.
Jaishankar noted that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping’s meeting in Kazan in October 2024, ties between the two nations have grown stronger. He expressed hope that future meetings could take place on Indian and Chinese soil, especially as the two countries mark 75 years of diplomatic relations.
He concluded by saying stable and constructive India-China relations are not only vital for the two countries but also beneficial for the entire world.
