US President Donald Trump has once again threatened to increase tariffs on India over its purchase of crude oil from Russia. Trump has openly stated that if necessary, the US could increase tariffs on India soon. Trump's statement comes at a time when all eyes are on India-US relations and global energy politics.

Trump said – Tariffs could increase very quickly

Donald Trump stated in his statement that India trades with Russia, and the US is closely monitoring it. He clearly warned that if the situation does not change, the US could increase import duties (tariffs) on India very quickly. Trump's statement is being considered a strong signal in global trade.

Praised PM Modi

Along with the tariff threat, Trump also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that PM Modi is a good person and is well aware that the US is unhappy with this issue. Trump also indicated that India had taken some decisions with the intention of appeasing the US.

Oil imports from Russia have become a bone of contention.

Following the Ukrainian war, the US and Western countries imposed severe economic sanctions on Russia. Despite this, India continues to purchase crude oil from Russia at discounted rates. India argues that this move is based on its energy security and domestic needs, while the US considers it to be against the spirit of the sanctions.
