India Slams Pakistan PM’s UNGA Speech, Calls Out “Glorification of Terrorism”
Responding to Pakistan, India’s Petal Gahlot stated that it was the Pakistani military that “directly pleaded with us for a cessation of hostilities” following Operation Sindoor.
India strongly rebuked Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday, with Indian diplomat Petal Gahlot accusing him of once again "glorifying terrorism" on a global platform.
Sharif, in his address during the UNGA general debate, made controversial claims about India's recent counter-terror operation, Operation Sindoor, launched after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. He alleged that Pakistan faced “unprovoked aggression” from India and claimed victory, saying, “We sent them back in humiliation… now we seek to win peace in our part of the world.”
Responding sharply, Gahlot dismissed Pakistan's narrative and offered a stark rebuttal. “It was Pakistan's military that pleaded with us directly for a cessation to the fighting,” she said. Highlighting the damage caused by India's precision strikes, Gahlot pointed out that pictures of destroyed runways and charred hangars on Pakistani territory are publicly available. “If destroyed runways and burnt-out hangars look like victory, as the Prime Minister claimed, Pakistan is welcome to enjoy it,” she remarked.
Sharif’s speech painted a distorted picture of the events, accusing India of exploiting the Pahalgam tragedy for political mileage and rejecting Pakistan’s call for an independent investigation. “India sought to extract political gains from a human tragedy… Instead, it attacked our cities and targeted innocent civilians,” he claimed, adding that Pakistan’s response was in line with its right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
However, Gahlot reminded the global assembly of Pakistan's own role in shielding terrorism. She referenced Pakistan’s actions at the UN Security Council earlier this year, where Islamabad reportedly protected “The Resistance Front” — a terror group allegedly backed by Pakistan — from being held accountable for the brutal killing of tourists in Jammu and Kashmir on April 25, 2025.
India’s Operation Sindoor was a targeted military response aimed at neutralising terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the Pahalgam attack. The operation has since been cited as a demonstration of India’s resolve to combat cross-border terrorism.
Gahlot’s firm remarks made it clear that India would not allow Pakistan to twist the narrative or escape responsibility for fostering terrorism in the region.
