India’s No Schoolchild”: US Journalist Slams Trump’s Tariffs Over Russian Oil
Journalist Rick Sanchez called the U.S. tariffs on India over its Russian oil purchases "disrespectful," stating that India is not a "schoolchild" to be told what to do.
American journalist Rick Sanchez has criticised the U.S. decision to slap heavy tariffs on India for buying Russian oil, calling it "disrespectful" and "ignorant." In an interview with ANI, Sanchez said the U.S. is treating India like a schoolchild, when in fact, “India is the big boy now.”
He was reacting to former President Donald Trump's move to impose a total of 50% tariffs on Indian goods—25% standard and another 25% as a penalty for India’s oil trade with Russia.
“When India told the U.S. it wouldn’t be dictated to on oil, that was a transformational moment,” Sanchez said. “It marked a shift in global power—from the West to the Global South, where India, China, and others are now rising.”
He also took aim at Trump aide Peter Navarro for blaming PM Modi for the Ukraine war, calling the comment “laughable” and lacking any real understanding of global politics.
“Too many in the U.S. don’t grasp India’s history or its role in the world,” Sanchez added. “They just react based on headlines and grudges.”
He praised recent meetings between PM Modi, Xi Jinping, and Putin at the SCO Summit, calling them “transformational” for the future of global leadership.
