Psychologists Raise Red Flags Over Donald Trump's Health, Point to Possible Signs of Dementia

Two psychologists have raised concerns that Donald Trump is showing signs of dementia — particularly frontotemporal dementia — as evidenced by a decline in his psychomotor functioning.

Two clinical psychologists are sounding the alarm over former U.S. President Donald Trump's health, claiming he’s showing a clear and worsening sign of a rare brain disorder.

Dr. Harry Segal and Dr. John Gartner, both psychologists, believe Trump is displaying symptoms consistent with dementia, particularly a type known as frontotemporal dementia, which affects behavior, speech, and movement. They made these comments during a recent episode of their show Shrinking Trump.

Dr. Gartner explained that Trump’s psychomotor performance — his ability to coordinate thought and movement — appears to be deteriorating. "We’re seeing a noticeable decline in how he moves, which often goes hand in hand with dementia, as the disease impacts all areas of brain function,” he said.

Their concerns come amid viral videos and public appearances where Trump seems to be moving awkwardly — even “frantically” trying to hide the back of his hand during events, sparking speculation about his physical condition.

Gartner added that in addition to Trump’s already visible language issues and verbal missteps, he’s now showing signs of motor decline. This, he says, is typical of someone with more than one type of dementia.

One specific red flag? A symptom called wide-based gait — a way of walking where one leg swings outward in a semicircle. According to Gartner, this is almost a "dead ringer" for frontotemporal dementia.

To support their claims, the psychologists pointed to footage from a recent summit between Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska. In the video, Trump appears to struggle to walk in a straight line on a red carpet. "He’s weaving all over the place," Gartner said, noting that his right leg swings in a way that causes him to veer left, forcing him to overcorrect repeatedly. “If police pulled you over and asked you to walk a straight line like that, you'd fail a DUI test.”

Dr. Segal agreed, noting the strangeness of the behavior: “He’s not drunk, but he moves like someone who’s losing control of one leg. It’s very odd.”

Despite growing concern, Trump continues to insist that his health is fine. After his annual medical in April, he claimed he got “the highest mark” on his cognitive test — something Drs. Segal and Gartner say isn’t exactly difficult to achieve.
