Trump Warns Hamas to Accept Gaza Peace Plan or Face ‘Sad End’
Trump gives Hamas a 3–4 day deadline to accept disarmament-for-aid deal backed by Israel and global powers; warns of severe consequences if rejected as Gaza death toll tops 66,000.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stern ultimatum to Hamas, urging the group to accept his proposed 20-point peace plan to end the war in Gaza—or face dire consequences. Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Tuesday, Trump said Hamas has “three to four days” to respond, warning that failure to do so would give Israel the green light to escalate its military operations.
“All of the Arab countries are signed up, the Muslim countries are signed up, Israel's signed up. We're just waiting for Hamas,” Trump said. “Hamas is either going to do it or not—and if it’s not, it’s going to be a very sad end.”
The plan, announced a day earlier, lays out a roadmap for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza. In return, Hamas is expected to disarm and relinquish any role in governing Gaza. The plan also includes provisions for the release of hundreds of Palestinian detainees held in Israeli prisons and immediate humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts in Gaza, where the population faces severe famine and widespread destruction.
While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has backed the proposal, reiterating his government’s rejection of any future Palestinian state, several global powers—including France, Canada, India, and Russia—have welcomed the initiative as a potential step toward peace.
Hamas, meanwhile, said it would consult internally and with other Palestinian factions before issuing a formal response.
Despite the plan's mention of a possible path to a Palestinian state, Netanyahu has made it clear that Israel will not allow such a development, maintaining a long-standing policy stance.
The humanitarian toll in Gaza continues to rise. Since the outbreak of the war on October 7, 2023—when Hamas launched a deadly attack on southern Israel that killed 1,200 people and resulted in the abduction of around 250—Israel’s military response has killed more than 66,000 Palestinians. Most of the victims are reported to be women and children, according to Palestinian health officials.
Trump's proposal could mark a significant turning point—if Hamas agrees. Otherwise, the region may be bracing for another wave of devastating violence.
