Security agencies in Dubai intercepted and shot down two suspicious drones flying near Dubai International Airport on Wednesday, with the falling debris injuring four bystanders — including an Indian national who sustained moderate injuries — the Dubai Media Office confirmed on X amid heightened security concerns across the Gulf region.

The two drones were detected flying in the vicinity of DXB and were immediately targeted and brought down by security personnel. The debris from the destroyed drones struck bystanders in the area. Among the four injured, two are Ghanaian nationals and one is Bangladeshi, all of whom suffered minor injuries. The Indian national sustained moderate injuries. All four were rushed to hospital and are currently receiving treatment.

Authorities were quick to clarify that the incident had no impact on airport operations. Flights at Dubai International Airport — one of the world's busiest aviation hubs — continued normally, with no disruption to passengers.

Security agencies have launched an investigation to determine the origin of the drones and their intended purpose. The probe is focused on identifying where the devices were launched from and whether they were linked to the broader West Asia conflict. Security has been significantly tightened around the airport perimeter to prevent any future incidents, with surveillance measures elevated across the facility.

The incident adds to a growing pattern of drone-related security threats across Gulf states as the Iran-Israel-US conflict continues to destabilise the region.
