Art with a purpose; Anurag Anand through his artworks, attempts to decode the life lessons of mythological epics

Anurag Anand is a familiar name for followers of Indian fiction writing. After enthralling his readers with books like The Legend of Amrapali, Birth of the Bastard Prince, To Hell and Back and The Assassination of Rajat Gandy, Anurag has recently launched his mesmerizing collection of paintings titled, Sutras.  Sutras is inspired by ancient Indian tradition. The artist, through his artworks, attempts to decode the life lessons and wisdom contained in mythological texts and epics. The story of Abhimanyu, the valiant warrior from Mahabharata, whose life was defined by the very knowledge he acquired when in his mother's womb and was cut short by the pieces that were inadvertently missed, is the basis for his creation – Continuum of Knowledge. While Arjuna's unwavering focus and skill to pierce the eye of a fish with his arrow is the subject of a set of Anurag's paintings titled Nucleus.
"The messages embedded in these tales help us become better version of ourselves. As a storyteller, I have only found yet another medium to tell these fascinating stories and deliver these messages," Anurag says about his collection. "For instance, in Ramayana, the young Luv and Kush are challenged by the Ashvamedha horse. They could have simply stepped aside, but they chose to stand tall and face the challenge. It was this one courageous act that eventually united them with a father they had never seen. This and other interpretations of this one scene can be seen in my paintings, Courage." Anurag's Sutras series has been garnering rave reviews from critics, collectors as well as Indian and international art lovers. Over the coming months, these artworks will be displayed in exhibitions across multiple cities to make them accessible to larger audience.
