BJP Set To Drive Home In UP, Uttarakhand As 5 States Get New Governments Tomorrow

The most-awaited elections of the year, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, will reach a culmination on Thursday, after the election results are announced. However, much upheaval, elation as well as heartburn has been caused in the political circles from Delhi to Lucknow. So far, it would be safe to say that breaking all previous trends, current incumbent Yogi Adityanath is all set to become the first Chief Minister of UP in almost four decades to return to chair for a second consecutive term. As per the India Today-Axis My India exit poll, BJP as well as its allies are likely to reprise their performance of 2017 and it is evident in their vote share, which is predicted to rise by 5% from last time's 46%. In comparison, the Samajwadi Party and its allies will grab 36% of the vote share, a whopping 12% rise since 2017. The Bahujan Samaj Party will go down 10% to gather 12% of vote share. As per expected lines, Congress' Priyanka Gandhi's spirited campaign failed to bring any succor to the grand old party as its vote share of 3% is a straight 3% dip in comparison to 2017. The electoral pundits had been declaring for long that BJP will be able to ride out whatever little anti-incumbency wave there was in the UP against its sitting MLAs. Despite the opposition parties having raised every issue possible – from unemployment to price hike, farmers' agitation to communal hatred – the results to be declare tomorrow are expected to be on the same lines as predicted. Talking about the VIP seats, starting with the Gorakhpur City, CM Yogi Adityanath is predicted to win against SP's Subhawati Shukla. In Karhal, SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav is likely to win against BJP's SP Baghel. In Raebareli, BJP's Aditi Singh, who was earlier with Congress, is projected to defeat SP's Ram Pratap Yadav. The exit polls have also predicted a victory for SP's Azam Khan, who is fighting against BJP's Akash Saxena on the Rampur assembly seat.
