Bollywood Star Rajkummar Rao Becomes National Icon for Voter Awareness

In a remarkable move ahead of the state assembly polls, renowned Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao has taken on the transformative role of the National Icon for voter awareness and education in India.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the actor and the Election Commission of India at an event held in the national capital, New Delhi. The signing of the agreement witnessed the presence of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel.
Rajkummar Rao, celebrated for his commitment to meaningful cinema and social causes, expressed his admiration for the relentless efforts of election officials who, despite myriad challenges, conduct elections ensuring no voter is left behind. In light of the apathy of youth and urban voters towards the electoral process, Rao passionately exclaimed, "Our collective voice, expressed through our votes, has the power to form a participative democracy." He emphasized the pivotal role that the youth play in this democratic process and urged them to become catalysts of positive transformation through their vote.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar lauded Rao's transition from dazzling audiences on the big screen to promoting an even grander production: voter awareness in elections. He noted that Rao's portrayal of "Newton," the dedicated election officer in a Naxal-affected state, makes him the perfect choice for the Election Commission's initiative. Kumar emphasized that this collaboration aims to harness the influence and popularity of Rajkummar Rao to encourage citizens, particularly the youth, across the nation to actively participate in the electoral process.
Encouraging youth to actively participate in elections, CEC Kumar stated, "Once you associate with the electioneering process, you will understand the intrinsic power of democracy and the value of your vote." He called upon influencers from all walks of life, including the media, to promote the importance of voting and bolster voter turnout in the forthcoming elections.
Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey highlighted the Election Commission of India's continuous effort to experiment with new initiatives to enhance voter turnout in elections.
The signing of the MoU with Rajkummar Rao signifies a shared commitment to empower and educate citizens about the importance of exercising their voting rights. This collaboration is set to encompass a wide range of activities, including Rao's involvement in promoting voter awareness through various TV talk shows, programs, and digital campaigns, all aimed at raising awareness about the importance of voting and strengthening the roots of democracy by fostering a more engaged and informed electorate. Rajkummar Rao's transition to the role of National Icon for voter awareness stands as a testament to his dedication towards making a positive change and enhancing India's vibrant democracy.
