Bijendra Prasad Yadav Announces Record ₹43,324 Cr Tax Collection in FY 2025–26

Commercial Taxes Department Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav on Thursday said that the department has made a record revenue collections of Rs 43,324 crore in the financial year 2025-26 that includes GST, VAT and other taxes.
Briefing reporters here at “Kar Bhawan” to highlight achievement of department’s revenue collections, Yadav said that “the department has made a record collections of Rs 43,324.79 crore in the financial year 2025-26, registering a growth of 4.09 per cent. The department had collected Rs 41,623.96 per cent in 2024-25.”
Yadav, who was accompanied by Department’s Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh, said that out of Rs 43,324.79 crore of revenue collections, the department has raked in Rs 32,801 crore alone on account of Goods and Services Tax (GST) which is 11.7 per cent more than what it collected in the financial year 2024-25.
Later, the central government deducted Rs 724 crore to make up shortfall in IGST balance, which reduced state’s GST collections to Rs 32,077.22 crore from Rs 32,801 crore, the minister said.
Despite this reduction, the state posted a growth of 9.20 per cent in GST collections whereas the national GST growth is 6 per cent, he said adding that Bihar ranked fourth in GST collections growth.
This is provisional data as collections may rise on account of professional tax, the data for which is reflected a slightly late, he said.
The department has achieved high gross collections despite a reduction in GST slabs on many items that included consumer goods in September 2025, Yadav said adding that the state has registered a growth of 10.60 per cent in financial year 2025-26 compared to 2024-25 in terms of all cash collections (SGST, CGST, IGST & Cess). Bihar’s growth is next to that of Karnataka, he added.
“The department has done a commendable job in terms of record revenue collections despite reduction in GST slab rates, assembly elections,” the minister said.
Bihar’s total tax collection under GST recorded a growth of 13 percent in March this year (2026) compared to March 2025, whereas GST collections growth at the national level stood at five percent.
Commercial taxes department realises tax in four categories, namely- GST, VAT on Petrol/Diesel, Electricity Duty, and Professional Tax.
Stating that the department has raked in a total of Rs 11,247.57 crore as non-GST collections, the minister said the department has collected Rs 10,037.38 crore as VAT on petrol, Rs 983.81 crore as electricity duty and Rs 226.38 crore as professional tax.
REGISTRATION DEPTT REGISTERS MORE THAN 101 PER CENT REVENUE COLLECTION
Achieving a milestone in revenue collections, the state’s Registration department has collected Rs 8403.46 crore against the target of Rs 8250 crore in the financial year 2025-26, registering 101.86 per cent of its target, Yadav said and added that it is Rs 153 crore more than the target.
Yadav, who also holds Prohibition Excise and Registration department, said that the department has achieved more than 101 per cent of its revenue target despite 1.87 lakh documents presented less for the registration. The revenue collection is 9.8 per cent more than what it collected in 2024-25.
The top five districts that fetched highest revenue included- Patna, Arwal, Aurangabad, Banka and Sheohar, he said adding that Patna collected revenue collection of Rs 1506.15 crore for registration of documents which is 110.63 per cent of its revenue target. Similarly, Arwal ranked second with 108.4 per cent, Aurangabad with 107 per cent, Banka with 106.2 per cent and Sheohar with 103.3 per cent, the minister said.
Similarly, the top five performing registry office included the names of Danapur, Rajauli, Patna city, Vikram and Dehri-On-Sone, he said.
Danapur posted 134 per cent of growth vis-à-vis revenue target, followed by Rajauli 130 per cent, Patna city 119 per cent, Vikram 118 per cent and Dehri-On-Sone 117.3 per cent.
