Larsen & Toubro Wins Key Contract for Mumbai Metro Lines 4 and 4A

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has officially announced on Saturday that it has won a major contract from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for work on Mumbai Metro Railway Line 4 and Line 4A.
According to an official statement, the project covers a total length of 35.2 km and will connect Wadala, Kasarvadavali and Gaimukh, improving east-west and north-south travel in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, though the value of the contract was not mentioned.
The contract, known as Package CA-298, mainly focuses on power supply and traction systems. Under this package, L&T will design, manufacture, supply, install, test, and commission the power and traction systems for 24.72 km of the metro route.
In addition, the company will provide Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for the entire Line 4 and Line 4A network. This system will cover 32 metro stations, depots, and receiving substations, helping in the smooth monitoring and control of operations, according to the statement.
All work under this contract will be carried out by L&T's in-house design and execution teams. The scope also includes setting up electrical and mechanical systems, as well as installing lifts and escalators at 22 elevated stations. L&T will also handle work at two metro depots. After completion, the company will be responsible for the comprehensive maintenance of these systems for a period of five years, according to the statement.
Incidentally, this is the third consecutive contract which L&T has secured for the Mumbai Metro Line 4 and 4A corridor. Earlier, the company had received Letters of Award for Packages CA-234 and CA-168, thereby strengthening its role in this important metro project.
Package CA-234 covers the supply of metro trains, advanced Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling, telecom systems, platform screen doors, and depot machinery for the entire Line 4 corridor. Meanwhile, Package CA-168 involves the construction of 19.5 km of ballastless tracks across 15 stations on Lines 4 and 4A, according to the statement.
