PM Modi: ‘Make in India’ Laid Foundation for Aatmanirbharta

It is gladdening to see how #11YearsOfMakeInIndia has contributed to furthering economic growth and laying the foundation for Aatmanirbharta, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today, marking the magnificent 11 years of the ‘Make In India’ Programme.
'Make in India' has a transformative impact on India’s economic landscape and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Responding to the post of MyGovIndia on X, Modi wrote, “11 years ago on this day, the Make in India initiative was launched with a vision to add momentum to India’s growth and tap into our nation’s entrepreneurial potential.''
''It is gladdening to see how #11YearsOfMakeInIndia has contributed to furthering economic strength and laying the foundation for Aatmanirbharta. It has encouraged innovation and job creation across sectors.”
‘Make in India’ was launched in 2014 by government with an aim to create and encourage companies to develop, manufacture, and assemble products in India and incentivize dedicated investments into manufacturing.
This policy approach was unique and focused on creating a conducive environment for investments, developing a modern and efficient infrastructure, and opening up new sectors for foreign capital.
Today, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal praised the efforts of PM Narendra Modi for the ‘Make in India’ scheme posted on X “Eleven years ago, PM @NarendraModi ji launched 'Make In India' with a vision to revive Bharat's manufacturing strength. Today, I am proud to say that this vision has transformed India into a global manufacturing powerhouse.''
''In these years, record FDI inflows, vast improvements in ease of doing business, our rise as the second-largest mobile manufacturer globally, soaring exports, and expanding defence production, all showcase how far we have come.”
“The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme has generated massive investments and jobs, while our vibrant startup ecosystem, driven by the enthusiasm and energy of our youth and women, has made India the world's third-largest hub of innovation. This journey has been made possible because of the collective effort of our industry, MSMEs, startups, entrepreneurs, and every citizen who carries the spirit of Swadeshi in their heart.''
So far, the #11YearsOfMakeInIndia story is that of resurgence. The decades ahead will script a story of global leadership through Aatmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat,” the post added.
Minister Goyal also shared a pictorial representation showing the transformation that happened in past eleven years, as India is now the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, with electronics production soaring.
In Defence, a 225 pc surge in production has propelled exports to more than 100 countries, elevating India’s status as a trusted security partner. The automobile sector, too, is booming, while the auto-components industry has doubled its output in only five years.
Technology and innovation are equally central to this story. India proudly produced its first home-grown semiconductor chip this year, supported by a Rs76,000-crore semiconductor mission that promises long-term self-reliance.
In pharmaceuticals, the nation remains the “pharmacy of the world,” ranking third globally by production volume and supplying affordable medicines to over 200 countries.
These achievements are backed by bold policy reforms and massive infrastructure upgrades that have unlocked record FDI inflows and encouraged a thriving start-up ecosystem.
As India celebrates a decade of Make in India, the initiative stands as a model of how strategic reforms, technological ambition, and home-grown innovation can transform a once import-dependent nation into a manufacturing powerhouse ready to lead the global economy.
