22-carat gold is mainly used in jewelry manufacturing, which has a purity of 91.6 percent. However, many times 89 or 90 percent pure gold is also sold as 22 carat by adulterating it. Therefore, whenever you buy jewelry, check its hallmark.

If the hallmark 375 is marked on the gold, it means that it is 37.5 percent pure. If the hallmark is 585, then the gold is 58.5 percent pure, while if the hallmark is 750, then it is 75.0 percent pure. If the hallmark is 916, then the gold is considered to be 91.6 percent pure. Similarly, if the hallmark is 990, then the purity of gold is 99.0 percent, and the hallmark of 999 means that it is 99.9 percent pure gold.
