Mata Sundri College NSS Unit Conducts Mock Drill at Than Singh Pathshala

New Delhi: PARIVARTAN, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Mata Sundri College for Women, organised a Civil Defence Mock Drill Awareness Session at Than Singh Pathshala. The initiative, supported by NSS volunteers, aimed to enhance safety and emergency preparedness among children.

Prof. Harpreet Kaur, Principal of Mata Sundri College for Women, commenced the session with an address emphasising the critical need to equip children, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, with essential knowledge for emergency situations. "Preparedness is the key to prevention. Our goal is to build a culture where safety is second nature to every child," she stated, acknowledging the collaborative efforts of the NSS Unit and Delhi Police.

Dr. Uzma Nadeem, NSS Programme Officer, highlighted the significance of the mock drill as a preventive measure to raise safety awareness. She stressed that preparedness extends beyond knowledge to include practice until responses become automatic.

A key segment of the session featured an enlightening speech by Delhi Police Head Constable Than Singh, recognised for his contributions to educating underprivileged children and fostering a culture of safety. He introduced the concept of mock drills through engaging explanations and practical examples, underscoring their importance amid escalating geopolitical tensions. Head Constable Singh outlined standard emergency procedures, including blackout protocols, and emphasised the importance of remaining calm and alert.

Participants learned to identify different emergency siren sounds and the appropriate immediate actions for various scenarios. The children displayed considerable enthusiasm in acquiring these life-saving techniques. NSS volunteers played a crucial role in facilitating the program, ensuring a smooth presentation and meaningful engagement with the young audience. The workshop effectively imparted fundamental emergency response skills, bolstering the children's resilience and confidence in handling unexpected events.
