National Commission for Women Organizes Mega Public Hearing for Women in Delhi

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has launched an innovative initiative titled “NCW at Your Doorstep” to conduct public hearings for women across the country. Under the leadership of NCW Chairperson Mrs. Vijaya Rahatkar, the aim of these public hearings is to address women’s grievances right at their doorstep, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
As part of this series, the NCW commenced a five-day Mega Public Hearing for Women at its office in Jasola, Delhi. The event was inaugurated with the esteemed presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi, Mrs. Rekha Gupta, as Chief Guest of the programme with NCW Chairperson Mrs. Vijaya Rahatkar, Three Members of Commission Ms. Mamta Kumari, Dr.Archana Majumdar , Ms. Delina Khongdup and Spl. Commissioner of Police Special Police Unit for Women and Children Dr. Sagar Preet Hudda IPS.
On the first day of the hearing, both Chief Minister Mrs. Rekha Gupta and NCW Chairperson Mrs. Vijaya Rahatkar, along with other Commission members, listened to the grievances of women and took significant decisions to address the issues raised. The upcoming four days will also focus on resolving pending cases and providing prompt solutions.
During her address, Mrs. Vijaya Rahatkar emphasized that if a woman is unable to reach the Commission in Delhi to file a complaint, the Commission will take the initiative to reach out to her. Speaking on the backlog of cases from Delhi, she stated that the primary objective of this Mega Public Hearing is to resolve all pending cases and ensure that women’s grievances are addressed efficiently.
Hon’ble Chief Minister Mrs. Rekha Gupta, in her keynote address, reaffirmed the commitment of the Delhi government to resolve women’s issues. She highlighted the various safety measures being implemented in the city and assured that during the public hearing, the Delhi Police and administration would extend full cooperation to the Commission.
Additionally, the NCW launched its fortnightly magazine “Jagriti” during the event. This publication will feature stories of women’s achievements, Supreme Court orders related to women, government initiatives, and the remarkable contributions of women across various sectors. The aim is to create a single comprehensive source of information for women’s issues, ensuring greater representation and recognition.
On this occasion, NCW Chairperson Mrs. Vijaya Rahatkar also felicitated two students from Shivaji College, University of Delhi, in recognition of their outstanding achievements in education and sports. The students were selected for their remarkable performances and were honored by the Chief Minister and the NCW Chairperson. These awards were a part of the Commission’s commitment to promoting women’s education and empowerment which were presented.
The National Commission for Women remains dedicated to the social, economic, and political empowerment of women and will continue to facilitate initiatives aimed at their welfare and development.
