Aamir Khan Opens Up About Height Insecurity, Embraces Humour in Upcoming Film Sitaare Zameen Par

Aamir Khan is gearing up for the release of his film Sitaare Zameen Par, and the recently dropped trailer has already caught attention. In one scene, Aamir's on-screen mother affectionately refers to him as a “tingu”- a nod to his shorter stature, something the actor once felt deeply insecure about.

In a candid chat with Just Too Filmy, Aamir admitted that early in his career, he was nervous about how his height might affect his chances in the industry. “I was really afraid,” he said. “At the time, Amit ji (Amitabh Bachchan) was number one and he was over six feet tall. So were Vinod ji and Shatrughan Sinha. I kept wondering, would anyone even accept a shorter actor like me?”

However, Aamir learned to laugh at himself and see humour as a strength. He shared a piece of wisdom, reflecting on this shift, from veteran writer Javed Akhtar: “Javed saab once told me that humour isn’t just for laughs — it's like a shock absorber during tough times. I completely agree. It’s helped me a lot, and it’s something we’ve brought into the film as well.”

In Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir plays a basketball coach who’s assigned to train a team of neurodivergent children as a form of punishment. What begins as a reluctant job slowly transforms into a journey of connection and growth. The film is an adaptation of the Spanish hit Campeones and is directed by R.S. Prasanna.

The film also introduces ten debut actors — Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar — who play the young athletes.
