Dhanush’s Idli Kadai Set to Stream on Netflix from October 29

Missed catching Dhanush’s latest directorial venture, Idli Kadai, in theatres? There’s good news for fans, as the Tamil-language drama is set for an OTT release very soon. The film, which also stars Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, and Shalini Pandey in pivotal roles, revolves around the story of a man whose father runs a small but popular idli stall. On Friday, Netflix India confirmed the film’s streaming release date on their social media handles. Idli Kadai will be available to stream on the platform starting October 29.
To announce the release, Netflix India shared a short promotional video from the film with the caption, “Get ready to have a blockbuster breakfast with Idli Kadai ♨️🔥 Watch Idli Kadai on Netflix, out 29 October in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.” This makes it accessible to audiences across multiple languages, allowing a wider range of viewers to enjoy the story.
Idli Kadai follows the journey of Murugan, played by Dhanush, who steps out to start his own venture, separate from his father’s idli stall that is cherished by the local community. As the story unfolds, Murugan faces challenges that escalate tensions, and he finds himself forced to defend his father’s business when it comes under threat. The narrative blends family dynamics with the struggles of running a small business, highlighting both emotional and dramatic elements.
The film marks another collaboration under Dhanush’s production banner, Wunderbar Studio, in association with Aakash Bhaskaran of Dawn Pictures. The music for the film has been composed by GV Prakash, adding another layer to the cinematic experience. Idli Kadai had its theatrical release on October 1, meaning the OTT release comes less than a month later, giving viewers who missed it in theatres a chance to watch it from home.
During the audio launch of the film, Dhanush shared that the title Idli Kadai was inspired by his own childhood love for idlis. He recounted memories of craving the dish every day but not being able to afford it. To earn some pocket money, he and his siblings would collect flowers from the neighborhood early in the morning, waking up at 4 AM and working for over two hours. They would earn just over ₹2 a day for their efforts. These nostalgic experiences formed the emotional foundation for the film’s title and theme, reflecting a connection between personal memories and storytelling.
With its blend of family sentiment, drama, and Dhanush’s signature storytelling, Idli Kadai promises to offer a heartwarming cinematic experience, now accessible to audiences nationwide through Netflix.
