India’s film student Riya Shukla’s short film ‘Ruse’ Selected for prestigious Berlin Film Festival

India's Riya Shukla is on the threshold of a wonderful honour. Her short film 'Ruse' has been selected by the Berlin Film Festival. This festival will be held in Berlin from 15 to 23 February. Berlin Film Festival is counted among the three biggest festivals in the world. If Riya wins the title, she will be the third Indian to receive this honour in the last 75 years.
Satyajit Ray and Nagesh Kukunoor of India have been two such directors whose films have won titles in Berlin. Riya's film has been placed in the Generation Kplus category, which addresses children and youth. Let us tell you that 28-year-old Riya is currently doing Masters in Script Writing and Direction at the world-famous Columbia University in New York.
Let us tell you that Riya's work has been presented in many other big film festivals. A music video made by her 'I wanna be like you' was selected as the best video at the Oakland Film Festival. Not only this, Riya was also a consultant for a film named Madhu, which made a splash at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
The film Ruse is about three girls aged between 10 and 12 years, who are practicing dance alone in their house on a monsoon afternoon. While practicing, they put on earrings and lipstick and suddenly feel young. This feeling is expressed only through eyes and expressions. There is almost no dialogue in the film. Only the sound and silence of the environment touch the hearts of the audience.
