Kantara Chapter 1 Box Office: Rishab Shetty’s Magnum Opus Nears ₹500 Crore Worldwide

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 continues its sensational run at the box office, nearing the end of its first week with impressive numbers. The Kannada period action-drama has not only made a mark domestically but has also maintained a steady presence overseas. On its seventh day in theatres, the film brought in ₹25 crore net in India, pushing its domestic total to ₹316 crore net (₹379 crore gross). This strong showing has taken the film past the ₹450 crore mark worldwide, making it one of the biggest Indian films of the year.

The film's performance across different languages has been especially noteworthy. The Hindi-dubbed version has alone collected over ₹100 crore net, while the original Kannada version is just behind at ₹99 crore. The Telugu version has also performed well, pulling in more than ₹60 crore net. Even the Malayalam and Tamil dubbed versions have each contributed over ₹20 crore, further cementing Kantara Chapter 1 as a true pan-India success.

Internationally, the film has earned over $8 million across global markets. Although daily earnings overseas have now dipped below the $1 million mark, the film is still expected to hold strong into its second weekend, with hopes of a rebound in collections.

With a current global gross of ₹451 crore, Kantara Chapter 1 has already surpassed the lifetime earnings of several blockbuster films including Brahmastra Part One (₹431 crore) and 3 Idiots (₹450 crore). All eyes are now on whether the film can maintain momentum and break into the ₹500 crore club during its second weekend.

Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, the film is a prequel set a thousand years before the events of the original Kantara. It also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram in key roles. Given its ongoing success and strong word-of-mouth, the franchise’s future looks bright, with Kantara Chapter 2 already in the pipeline. The question now is—can Kantara Chapter 1 aim for the ₹1000 crore milestone? Time will tell, but it's off to a roaring start.
