Karan Johar Admits Defeat After Daughter Roohi Shuts Him Down for Calling Labubu Dolls a 'Trend'

The Labubu craze has officially reached Karan Johar’s household — and it's all thanks to his daughter, Roohi. On Sunday, the filmmaker shared a lighthearted and endearing moment on Instagram, revealing just how deep the Labubu obsession runs at home.

In the video, Roohi is seen clutching her beloved Labubu doll as Karan playfully questions her about the viral trend. “Roohi, do you really want to follow this trend?” he asks, half-joking, half-curious. Without missing a beat, the six-year-old confidently fires back, “It’s not a trend, it’s my friend.”

Caught off guard but clearly amused, Karan admits defeat, replying with a laugh, “Oh God, okay.” He captioned the video: “Can’t argue with that can I?? #LabubuTakeover.”

The adorable exchange quickly caught the attention of fans and friends from the industry. Actor Ishaan Khatter cheekily commented, “Lawhoboo?” while Maheep Kapoor, mother of Shanaya Kapoor, responded with heart emojis. Sophie Choudry backed Roohi, writing, “Well said, Roohi.” Fans chimed in too, calling Roohi “adorable” and “so pretty,” with one joking, “Ye log hamesha aapko daat te kyu rehte hain?” (“Why are they always scolding you?”)

Meanwhile, on the professional front, Karan Johar is busy promoting his upcoming production Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri. The filmmaker recently spoke about the film’s socially relevant theme, expressing pride in its message.

“It’s a story that makes you wake up and think,” Karan said, noting that the issues it tackles aren’t just limited to small towns — they resonate everywhere. “These things take time. They can’t happen overnight. That’s why processes like censorship exist, and we have to respect them. It took time, but every good thing does.”
