Karan Johar slams podcasters for inviting guests who speak disrespectfully about the film industry: ‘This needs to stop’

Karan Johar recently spoke out against a growing trend among some podcasters who invite guests and astrologers to spread negativity about people in the entertainment industry. Sharing his thoughts on Instagram Stories, the filmmaker called out this practice of creating clickbait content just for views and said it needs to stop.

In his statement, Karan wrote, “While I have the utmost respect for credible and respectable members of the media, there’s a subculture of podcasters—basically chat shows with new-age names—that have come out of nowhere. They bring on guests who seem to have nothing to lose, people who haven’t been invited anywhere since World War II, and these guests end up spewing venom and saying the most disrespectful things about hardworking and legendary members of our fraternity!”

He added, “This needs to stop! Also, psychics and astrologers making awful and scary predictions, even about people’s impending deaths, is both insensitive and disgusting! Free speech? Yes. Clickbait for followers? No!” Karan didn’t name any specific podcasters or shows.

On the work front, Karan recently co-produced Dhadak 2, which hit theaters on August 1. The film, a social drama starring Triptii Dimri and Sidhant Chaturvedi, is a remake of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal. Earlier this month, Karan also won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment for his directorial Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani.

Meanwhile, Karan will make a special appearance in Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, The Ba-*-*-*ds of Bollywood. A teaser for the Netflix show, releasing on September 18, features Karan in a scene where he’s heard cussing someone on the phone.
