Kunal Kapoor on Ranbir Kapoor-Sai Pallavi’s Ramayana: “It’s Made on a Scale Never Seen Before”

Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films in Indian cinema and actor Kunal Kapoor, who is reportedly playing Lord Indra in the film, express that the audiences are in for something truly unique.
In a recent interview with News18, Kunal Kapoor, opened up about the epic scale of the production. “This is a very important story in our cultural history,” he said. “It’s deeply rooted in who we are, and I think it’s crucial to have filmmakers who can bring that to life with the right scale. Ramayana is mounted on a level we’ve simply never seen before.”
The actor added that audiences should prepare to be surprised. “It’s going to be something really special—exactly the kind of film this story deserves. It will be a spectacle like no other. I’m really excited for what’s coming, and I think the viewers will be too.”
Kunal isn’t the only one impressed by what’s being created. At the Waves Summit 2025, Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis also commended the production while speaking with producer Namit Malhotra. “We’re the world’s oldest storytellers,” he said. “To see our stories told using cutting-edge technology is incredible. What I saw yesterday—the visuals, the scale—was extraordinary. I think Ramayana will set a global benchmark for storytelling.”
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. The supporting cast includes Lara Dutta, Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, Sheeba Chaddha, and Arun Govil. The film is planned as a two-part release, with the first installment arriving in cinemas during Diwali 2026 and the second expected in 2027.
