Manipuri Film 'Boong' Wins BAFTA; PM Modi Hails 'Moment of Joy for Manipur'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated the cast and crew of Boong, a Manipuri-language film, on winning the BAFTA Award in the Children's and Family Film category — marking a landmark moment for cinema from India's Northeast on one of the world's most prestigious cinematic stages.
Taking to social media to share his congratulations, the Prime Minister described the win as a cause for celebration far beyond the film industry. "This is a moment of joy, especially for Manipur," Modi wrote, acknowledging the cultural significance of a film in the Manipuri language earning global recognition at the BAFTAs. He also noted that the award was a reflection of the "immense creative talent" that exists across India.
The BAFTA win for Boong represents a breakthrough for Manipuri-language cinema, which has long been celebrated within the Northeast but rarely received mainstream international attention at this scale. The Children's and Family Film category at the BAFTAs is among the most competitive globally, making the recognition all the more significant for the film's team and for the state of Manipur.
