Param Sundari Struggles at Box Office After Promising Weekend Start

Tushar Jalota’s romantic comedy Param Sundari, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, hit theatres last Friday with hopes of reviving the classic Bollywood rom-com formula. However, despite a decent start over the weekend, the film has seen a significant drop in collections on its first Monday.

According to early estimates from Sacnilk, Param Sundari earned just ₹3.50 crore on Monday, bringing its total four-day collection to ₹28.19 crore. The film had opened with ₹7.25 crore on Friday and showed steady growth through the weekend, peaking on Sunday with ₹30.25 crore. On Monday, however, it witnessed a sharp decline, with overall Hindi occupancy dropping to just 10.42%.

In comparison, the recently released Saiyaara, directed by Mohit Suri and starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, had a much stronger first Monday, raking in ₹22.50 crore. By its fourth day, Saiyaara had already crossed the ₹100 crore mark — a milestone Param Sundari seems far from reaching.

Param Sundari follows a cross-cultural love story between a man from Delhi and a woman from Kerala. Alongside Sidharth and Janhvi, the film features Rajeev Khandelwal and Aakash Dahiya in key roles.

Speaking about her character, Janhvi Kapoor said, “Sundari is deeply personal to me. Her grace, quiet strength, and love for her roots resonate with my own South Indian heritage. Shooting in Kerala, surrounded by such beauty, I felt an emotional connection to her world that I hope the audience will feel too.”

Despite Janhvi’s emotional connection to the role, the film has faced criticism for its clichéd portrayal of Malayali culture, a lack of chemistry between the leads, and a weak, predictable storyline.

As the film enters the crucial weekdays, it remains to be seen whether Param Sundari can recover and find its audience, or continue to fade in the shadow of stronger box office performers.
