Priya Sachdev Responds After Karisma Kapoor’s Children File Suit Over Sunjay Kapur’s ₹30,000 Crore Estate

The legal battle over late industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s ₹30,000 crore estate is heating up, with his third wife Priya Sachdev Kapur defending herself in Delhi High Court after the children from his second marriage — with actor Karisma Kapoor — filed a suit challenging the legitimacy of his will.
Priya told the court that Karisma’s children, Samaira (20) and Kiaan (15), had already received ₹1,900 crore from the family's trust shortly before the case was filed. “What more do they want?” she asked, according to a PTI report.
The children have accused Priya of forging Sunjay’s will in order to gain control of his vast assets. Their counsel argued that the will, although unregistered, appeared suspicious. In response, Priya’s lawyer, senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, said, “Just because it’s not registered doesn’t mean it’s invalid. There is clear precedent that an unregistered will can still be valid.”
Nayar further criticized the lawsuit, stating, “All this crying and weeping — just six days before the suit was filed, the plaintiffs received ₹1,900 crore from the trust. What more do they want?”
He added, “I am the last wife of the deceased. Your husband left you many years ago. I am a widow. We have some sympathy for the deceased.”
On Wednesday, the Delhi High Court directed Priya to disclose a full list of Sunjay Kapur’s movable and immovable assets as of June 12 — the day he passed away. Justice Jyoti Singh issued the directive while registering the suit filed by Karisma’s children and posted the matter for further hearing on October 9.
“For the moment, I am only going to register the plaint and ask you to file replies,” Justice Singh said. “Along with the replies, Defendant No. 1 -[Priya] will file a list of all movable and immovable assets known to her, as of June 12.”
Priya’s counsel also brought up Karisma’s contentious divorce from Sunjay, noting it was settled only after a prolonged legal battle that ended in the Supreme Court. “Please have some sympathy for the soul of the deceased. I -[Priya] have a six-year-old child. I am a widow. You -[Karisma] were nowhere to be seen for the last 15 years,” he said, reiterating that the children are not destitute.
Sunjay’s 80-year-old mother, Rani Kapur, has also contested the will, claiming she has been left with nothing. Her counsel told the court that she had been excluded entirely from the estate and called the process "unholy."
“Today, I have nothing,” Rani said through her lawyer. “I have written at least 15 emails asking about the will — not a single word has been shared with me. I’ve even been told my emails were compromised. ₹10,000 crore worth of assets should have been mine. I am 80 years old. Everything is gone. Ms. Sachdev -[Priya] comes in, and within three months of marriage, everything changes? My son has left me with no roof over my head.”
The suit filed by Samaira and Kiaan also alleges that Sunjay never spoke of a will, nor was it mentioned by Priya or anyone else until after his death. Their lawyers argue that Priya’s conduct “without a doubt” points to the alleged will being fabricated.
As the case unfolds, the high-stakes dispute between members of one of India’s most high-profile families promises to reveal even more about the personal and financial conflicts behind the scenes.
