Rajinikanth's Coolie Joins ₹500-Crore Club, Becomes Third Biggest Hit of 2025

Rajinikanth's Coolie has become the third Indian film of 2025 to cross the ₹500-crore mark worldwide. The action-packed film, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, hit the milestone in just 14 days, thanks to a phenomenal opening week both in India and overseas.
Despite a noticeable slowdown after its second weekend, Coolie managed to hold strong. So far, the film has earned ₹268.75 crore net (₹309 crore gross) in India. While it's now eyeing the ₹300-crore domestic mark, the pace has slowed—day 14 brought in ₹4.5 crore net.
Internationally, Coolie had a record-breaking start, especially in the US, UK, and Australia. Its total overseas earnings are estimated at just under $21 million (around ₹182 crore), taking its worldwide gross collection to ₹501 crore.
Over the weekend, Coolie surpassed the lifetime earnings of Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 (₹488 crore). It's now among the top 10 highest-grossing South Indian films of all time and is just outside the all-time top 25 Indian films overall.
Next up for Coolie are the box office hauls of Saiyaara (₹568 crore), Padmaavat (₹585 crore), and Sanju (₹588 crore). If it continues its run, it could break into the top 20 highest-grossing Indian films ever.
Coolie stars Rajinikanth as a retired coolie and union leader who is pulled back into a world of violence after the death of a close friend. The ensemble cast includes Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, and Soubin Shahir, with special appearances by Upendra and Aamir Khan.
