Rajinikanth’s Coolie Nears ₹450 Crore Mark Despite Box Office Slowdown

Rajinikanth’s Coolie is still holding its ground at the box office, even as collections have slowed down after a blockbuster opening weekend. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the action drama has now completed a week in theatres and is inching close to the ₹450 crore mark in global gross.

The film stormed into cinemas with a massive ₹350+ crore worldwide opening across its first four days. However, the momentum dipped sharply starting Monday, with a 65% drop in domestic collections. By Thursday, Coolie was bringing in single-digit crores at the Indian box office. Still, the film's strong early run helped it reach ₹230 crore net (₹273 crore gross) in India.

Overseas, Coolie has performed exceptionally well, shattering several Tamil cinema records across multiple markets. It has raked in just under -$21 million (₹171 crore) internationally. That puts its total worldwide collection at around ₹444 crore after one week. The film is expected to cross ₹450 crore by Friday afternoon.

With this haul, Coolie has now overtaken Jr NTR’s Devara: Part 1, which grossed just over ₹430 crore worldwide. Its next target is Vijay’s The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), currently standing at an estimated ₹457 crore globally.

Coolie now ranks as the sixth-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time. The top five include Rajinikanth’s 2.0 and Jailer, Vijay’s Leo and GOAT, and Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part I. With the film’s pace slowing, it remains to be seen how much higher Coolie can climb in that elite list.

The film features Rajinikanth as a retired coolie who gets caught up in a gangster world while investigating a friend’s mysterious death. The cast also includes Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Sathyaraj. Bollywood star Aamir Khan makes a surprise cameo, marking his debut in Tamil cinema.
