Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol Reflect on 30 Years of DDLJ, Bollywood’s Most Beloved Love Story

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s timeless romantic classic 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' continues to capture hearts even 30 years after its release.

As the film marks its milestone anniversary, the Bollywood superstar reflected on the enduring love and global admiration for his portrayal of the unforgettable 'Raj'.

In a conversation with Variety, SRK shared, “It doesn’t feel like it’s been 30 years since DDLJ released. I’m deeply grateful for the love people around the world have given me for playing Raj. None of us could have imagined the special place this film would find in audiences’ hearts.”

The 'Jawan' actor also spoke about the film’s lasting influence, noting how couples often credit DDLJ for inspiring their love stories or even marriages. “I think it’s had such a positive and happy impact on Indian and South Asian pop culture,” he added.

Shah Rukh credited the film’s monumental success to director Aditya Chopra’s vision and the warmth of the team behind it. “The clarity Adi had about DDLJ, along with the blessings of Yash ji, made it truly special,” he said.

Kajol, who played Simran, echoed similar sentiments, describing her character as one that represents “millions of girls across India.” She reflected on how the film has transcended generations, “The viewers who adored this film at 16 are now watching it with their children, loving it even more deeply with each passing year. It has become the blueprint for how Indian cinema dreams of love.”

Speaking about her on-screen chemistry with Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol added, “We’ve always had an understanding, a rhythm, and a trust, that’s what made Raj and Simran come alive.”

Released in 1995, 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge', directed by Aditya Chopra and produced by Yash Chopra, starred Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in lead roles and remains one of Bollywood’s most beloved love stories.
